Best Wireless Repeater 2013

Best Wireless Repeater of 2013This is a list of the five best-selling wireless repeaters for 2013. The main source is the list of bestselling repeaters on Amazon.com. Most of these devices (or very similar ones) have already been reviewed on this website, so for more detail on each entry please feel free to read the full review.

  1. Securifi Almond
  2. The Securifi Almond is an all-around great device. It’s the most expensive repeater on this list, but it adds good value for the extra cost. Firstly, it has the usual Wireless Access Point, Wireless Repeater and Wireless Bridge modes, but can also function as a stand-alone router. Even if you’re in the market for a repeater specifically, in a year or two down the road you may have to change around your network structure (due to upgrading, moving, device malfunctions and so on) – and having reliable devices that can perform multiple roles is a nice advantage.

The unique feature the Almond has is the touchscreen, which is most likely one of the main reasons it has climbed to the #1 best seller position on amazon in both the repeater and the access point category – and stayed there. The touchscreen allows you to configure the device without ever logging into a configuration screen from a computer, and it works very well – clear steps to follow, auto-detection of existing networks and so on.

  3. TP-LINK TL-WR702N Wireless N150 Travel Router
  4. The TP-LINK TL-WR702N is possibly the ultimate travel router. The Amazon product description boasts that this device is the “smallest wireless router in the world”. It’s a multi-mode device, capable of acting as a router, repeater, bridge or access point. It’s size is 2.2″x2.2″x0.7″ – absolutely tiny. It is also very straightforward to set up. And all of that for less than US $20 at the time of this review.

The TL-WR702N has not been reviewed by WirelessRepeaterHQ.com yet, but a full review is forthcoming.

  5. Netgear Universal WN3000RP Wi-Fi Range Extender
  6. The NETGEAR WN3000RP is the first of several dedicated repeater devices on this list. Like the TL-WR702N repeater above, its main feature is compactness (though it’s not nearly as compact as the TL-WR702N).

This device has not been specifically reviewed on this website – however, the very similar WN2000RPT has. The main difference between the two is that the WN3000RP is more compact and can be plugged into the wall without a cable, and it also only has one Ethernet port compared to the WN2000RPT’s four.

For more information about the WN3000RP, take a look at the very similar WN2000RPT review.

  7. NETGEAR WN2500RP Range Extender
  8. The NETGEAR WN2500RP is the only dual band repeater that made this list. It’s the second most expensive entry, and at about US $10 less than the Securifi Almond the trade-off is dual band support in exchange for losing all modes other than wireless repeater. That makes this device the best choice for a Wireless-N household that actually uses the 5GHz (whether exclusively or in tandem with 2.4GHz – the WN2500RP will support both situations) and needs a signal boost.

The WN2500RP also has the handy feature of dynamical signal status LEDs, which react to signal quality in real-time, allowing you to use them as a guide to find the best possible placement for repeating the existing Wi-Fi signal. Combined with plenty of Ethernet ports and easy setup, it’s an all-around great dedicated repeater.

  9. Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Smart Repeater and Range Extender (SR300)
  10. The SR300 is another dedicated repeater device manufactured by Amped, a company with a big focus on high-range repeaters and antennas. Its closely related, higher-range brother, the SR10000, has been previously reviewed on this website.

The big difference between the two devices is that the SR300 has half the range of the SR1000: 5,000 sq ft vs 10,000 sq ft for the SR10000. There is around a US $30 difference between the two devices, so the best choice really depends on how much ground the repeated signal has to cover.
Take a look at the SR10000 review for more information about the SR300.

Best Wireless Repeater 2011

Best Wireless Repeater of 2011This is a list of the best-selling wireless repeater devices of 2011. The primary source is amazon.com’s list of bestsellers in this category. Each device (with one exception) has had its own review on this website, so for more detail on each entry please feel free to read the full review.

  1. Diamond Multimedia 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless Range Extender (WR300N)
  2. The Diamond WR300N is a great cheap wireless repeater device, which also supports wireless access point and bridge modes. Its main downside is that it only has one ethernet port, which might mean you need to use it in tandem with an ethernet hub to fulfill your particular networking needs.

The unique feature the WR300N brings to this list is its compact size: it’s designed to plug directly into a power source, making it easier to keep things neat and tidy. Its compact size also makes it very travel-friendly, and you could use it to create you own wireless network in a hotel room that only offers wired network access, for example.

  3. Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N Smart Repeater and Range Extender (SR300)
  4. The SR300 is the only item on this list that hasn’t been reviewed on wirelessrepeaterhq.com at the time of writing. However, it was mentioned on the review of the SR10000, which is its close relative. The only real difference between the two devices is that the SR300 has half the range of the SR1000: 5,000 sq ft vs 10,000 sq ft for the SR10000.
For more information about the SR300 than that just look at the SR10000 review.

  5. Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-N 600mW Smart Repeater and Range Extender (SR10000)
  6. The second entry in this list by Amped, this extender is an upgrade to the SR300. It boasts a greater range (up to 10,000 sq ft), at an extra cost of about $40 USD. With 5 Ethernet ports, the SR10000 has the most ports out of the devices on this list. It has a great range, and all the standard features a basic Wireless-N repeater should have. It’s also a dedicated repeater device, made by a company with an entire series of such devices, designed specifically for high-quality range extension.

  7. ZyXEL 300 Mbps Wireless N Access Point, Ethernet Client, Universal Repeater, and Range Extender (WAP3205)
  8. The ZyXEL WAP3205 is a fairly standard multi-mode access point device. It is the cheapest device on this list, priced at around $50 USD. It’s a decent solution for a home network that needs to be extended a little into an upper floor or remote area of the house. With its many modes it can also easily be redeployed as a bridge or access point later on as your networking needs change, without needing to get a new device.

  9. NETGEAR Universal WiFi Range Extender WN2000RPT
  10. The NETGEAR WN2000RPT is the third dedicated repeater device that made this list. It’s cheaper than the Amped SR150 by about $20 USD, and seems to have a somewhat shorter range. Its status indicator LEDs are a great feature: they help you identify the ideal positioning for the device by notifying you of connectivity quality between itself and other devices. It is also known to be very easy to setup and configure.
